Why You’re Always Exhausted (Even When You Do Everything Right)

always tired exhausted karlien de roy mentally exhausted simply energetic! Jun 15, 2026

Have you ever slept a full eight hours, rested the entire weekend, and still woken up on Monday feeling completely drained?  Maybe you even went on a holiday, only to come back feeling just as exhausted as before you left.

If you are nodding your head right now, you are probably wondering: Is this just me? Is this my new normal?

First of all: Take a deep breath. You are not broken, and you are definitely not lazy.

You have probably already tried everything the "Standard System" tells you to do. You tried getting more sleep, practicing better sleep hygiene, taking vitamin D, and cutting out caffeine . Maybe your blood tests even came back perfectly fine—which is almost more frustrating, because at least a diagnosis would explain why you feel this way!

Here is the truth: All of those things target the symptoms. They do not target the actual cause.

The real reason you are so tired has absolutely nothing to do with sleep. It has everything to do with the fact that you are leaking energy.

Your Energy Works Like a Phone Battery

Think about your smartphone. You charge it all night, but by late afternoon, it is already down to 40% . When you check to see what is going on, you realize location services are on, notifications are pinging, and there are a dozen apps running in the background.

Your phone battery isn't broken. It is just leaking.

Your own energy works in the exact same way. You are not exhausted because you lack energy; you are exhausted because your energy is leaking out faster than sleep, food, or rest can replace it.

The most frustrating part? These energy leaks are completely invisible.  Nobody ever taught you to look for them, so they just run quietly in the background all day long.

The 5 Sneaky Energy Leaks

In my experience working with uniquely wired individuals, these invisible drains usually fall into five categories:

  • Permission Traps: Waiting for an external green light or someone else's approval before you trust yourself to make a move.
  • Social Masks: Constantly shape-shifting to fit into roles or environments that weren't built for you.
  • Mental Drag: Leaving way too many mental browser tabs open and running in the background of your brain.
  • Decision Fatigue: Burning through your daily fuel just to manage projects, keep the peace, and make sure everyone else is happy.
  • Environment Drain: Pushing through sensory overload in spaces that are simply too loud, chaotic, or fast-paced for your unique wiring.

If you are doing everything "right" but still feeling completely empty, it is not a discipline problem. It is a leak problem.

Stop Pushing. Start Flowing.

The moment you figure out exactly where your energy is going, everything changes. You can stop trying to pour more energy into a leaky cup, and simply start closing the holes.

If you are sitting there wondering which of those five categories is draining you the most, I made a free tool exactly for this.
